About the Engender Database
The Data menu section and sub menus are intended to inform all users about the research background as well as providing information about the development of the database, use and support for people entering data or those who will use the Engender database..
The database has been developed by the Engender Partnership to assist in meeting the needs of public policy makers and decision takers to provide them with information in their search for good practices. The structure of the database is based on the Framework for the role of gender as a social determinant of health developed by the Women and Gender Equity Knowledge Network (WGKEN).
Everyone who wishes to use and indeed enter data to the Engender database should take time to familiarise themselves with the synopsis of the WGKEN Report.
The WGKEN report was written by Sen G. and Ostlin P. "Gender inequity in health: Why it exists and how we can change it.", Global Public Health 2008; 3(S1): 1-12. This document and other supporting documentation can be viewed by clicking here.
The Database
The database was developed under Work Package (WP) 5 of the Engender project and resulted from in depth discussions, inputs and suggestions from partners and other experts. We thank all concerned for their work to date and indeed their, as yet, undefined efforts in populating this facility with models of good practice for the use of public sector actors and indeed, everyone.
The database is given in English but presents details of the good practices in their originating language. In addition, for people entering data, the form provides help information in French, Spanish and German.
We welcome constructive comments and inputs to this process from everyone.
