Innovative responses to the social impact of the crisis Wrocław, Poland, 26 Sept 2011

 

A ministerial conference of the Polish Presidency, to be held in Wrocław (Poland) on 26 September 2011, will discuss responses to the social impact of the crisis and how to intensify the support to innovation within social policies.

Ten social experiments implemented in Member States will be presented by their practitioners and evaluators. These projects cover the fields of education, employment, homelessness, minimum income benefit and youth policy.

The economic crisis has put social protection systems under strong strains across Europe. On the one hand it has considerably increased the need and the demand for social interventions (unemployment benefits, social housing, social services and social assistance in general). Feminicide (murder of women) in Mexico and Central America – 4 October

DROI, jointly with the Committee on Women’s Rights and Gender Equality, will assess progress in policy and practice on fighting feminicide in the region, following the Inter-American Court of Human Rights’ judgment. It will also look at what the EU has done, within the scope of bi-regional relations, to implement its political commitments on fighting this growing scourge.

Joint meeting LIBE/FEMM on “European Protection Order” – 4 Oct 12.00 -12.30

Crime victims who have been granted protection in one EU Member State will be able to get similar protection if they move to another, under a draft agreement on the European Protection Order struck by Parliament and Council representatives. The committees will in their joint meeting discuss and take a decision on the outcome of the negotiations with the Council.
